I had to make this piece after listening to my mom and her friends talk in the kitchen about using a machete both to prepare food and also fight people away.
I swear my mom is lying when she tells me her stories, but then when she brings witnesses, her friends, and they all start remembering and sharing I always think, wow these women are something else. Fearless, homemakers, protectors, smart, sexy, and just straight up savages.
Anyhow, it is very traditional in El Salvador for women to wear aprons over their outfits throughout the day, so I had to make one that captured the essence of all of the above. This is just a playful reminder that sexy and dangerous often coexist.
