Things I have heard:
“That is actually not a bad idea.”
“That is the most useful thing you’ve done.”
“You are actually smart.”
“You are not like other women; you do stuff.”
“My professor at Berkeley is the only smart woman I know.”
“You should major in sociology because other majors will be too hard.”
The list goes on and on. It took me about 10 seconds to think of the statements above I heard in different conversations from different people during different stages of my life.
Since I can remember I have constantly been treated as if the mere fact that I am woman meant I was going to be weak or unable to reach great lengths. And if I did it was somewhat of a miracle. I do not know what world people live in, but I am where I am who I am because I have had the privilege to have a community of amazing women raise me.
I have seen and read about women being underestimated who do incredible things.
This piece was designed by a badass woman for badass women. It is a reminder that though you will probably continue to be underestimated, it will always be their biggest mistake.
